I & I is an exploration and affirming of my Jamaican body. As a member of the diaspora, born and raised in the United States, I have felt a disconnect from my maternal homeland. This process has led me towards discovering my family’s migration story, learning about Carribean dance and historical research, and uncovering the global cultural impact of this mighty Carribean island. The dance dives into questions surrounding hyper-masculinity, queerness, and redemption.
